Black Designers & Artists Matter
The most important message that I can share right now is that Black Lives Matter, and that Black Designers Matter, Black Artists Matter, Black Small Business Owners Matter, and Black Futures Matter.
As I’ve been searching my heart for the last 20 years for how to make a difference in racial injustice, prison and judicial reform, I had no clue how to start the conversation. Where does one person start with such an overwhelming problem? Despite whatever you may think of her, I’ve had quite the admiration for Kim Kardashian for using her platform to make a difference, at least #takeaction.
Who knew all I needed to do to start the conversation was as simple as asking my black friends how they feel about recent events, and sharing my concerns. But this article isn’t about me nor about these private conversations.
This article is a spotlight on the beauty, the talent, and the light coming from the women and men that are some of my black friends and followers on Instagram.
These creative souls have the same dreams as you and me. Not only do they wish to do what they love for a living, they also wish to make a difference by giving of their talents to make the world a better place.
It is important that we share their voices, and continue to #elevatemelanatedvoices.

The Ugly Truth
The pandemic is furthering the wealth gap due to racism as black businesses are more likely to fold due to loss of business during COVID than white businesses.
Blackenterprise.com reports, “According to a recent nationwide survey, 45% of black and Latinx small business owners say they anticipate closing within six months due to the coronavirus outbreak. Another 41% said they were denied relief assistance when applied…”
